The temptation to make a “buzz” -related joke is almost overwhelming, but I’ll restrain myself. Even though it means that my often barbed commentary will lack its usual sting. Treating honey bees as pests instead of agricultural assets is yet another sign that our cherished City is changing. Since “change” is such a loaded concept in Miss Petaluma’s backyard, I expect a movement to preserve our threatened Historic Honey Bee Heritage to spring up any time now with the usual consequences: Purchasing a fly-swatter will require passing a test that proves you know the difference between a bee and fly, and will require a two-week background check to determine if you have a record for bee abuse. And a victim’s rights group for assaulted bees will stage a protest march while bearing signs reading “SWAT NOT!”, “BEE KIND” and “BEES ARE PEOPLE TOO.”
