We celebrated Veteran’s Day last weekend with a parade. Still it seems like a lot of local folks confuse their compulsive Bush hating and reflexive aversion to military actions of any kind with those who volunteer to serve our country. Recently, an acquaintance regaled me with a story of how his fiery-tempered wife blistered the ears of a military recruiter who had the temerity to call up their 18-year old son and ask if the boy would consider a career in military. I have a son about the same age who is regularly called by representatives of the Army and Marines. He doesn’t have any interest in the military, but he knows enough to treat these veterans – and all recruiters are combat veterans these days – with the respect they are due for their service on our behalf.
