America was founded and has thrived on the preservation of individual rights. The challenge, of course, is balancing peoples’ rights against the “the public good”…whatever that is perceived to be at particular time and in any specific place. It’s interesting to me that in this matter both Democrats and Republicans are identical in that both groups are adamant on clinging to rights that they hold dear, but equally determined to manage or mitigate the rights of their adversaries. Ah, I hear someone say, that’s the difference between “politics” and “statesmanship.” Okay, I can agree that United Nations is different. Though founded on the concept of Human Rights, today it functions to preserve not only the perks of it’s own farcically incompetent and corrupt bureaucracy, but dictators, despots and maniac rulers worldwide.
