My mom is in an Alzheimer’s Care facility. My sister takes her to the dentist every month because dental care isn’t provided. This most recent local tragedy involving an elderly woman dying from an infection traced to lack of dental care hit a nerve…so to speak. Turns out about half of the local elder care facilities have received fines for lapses in patient care. To me, that points up, as much, the challenge of providing effective care to the elderly and infirm as it does the quality of care these facilities are providing. It’s hard job and those who committed to doing it well have my gratitude.
