The current financial crisis is forcing our beloved city to confront a number of challenges like the management of public facilities such as the pool. To some, outsourcing the pool operations looks like the perfect solution. To this I say why stop at just the public pool? They are already talking about shutting down the city’s planning department and outsourcing to a private firm such projects with the audacity to approach a no-growth city like Petaluma. Why not outsource the most dysfunctional circus in town – our City Council – to a private firm? Maybe Ringling Brothers could manage the clownish behavior of some of our public savants (they’re certainly not servants)? A big cat trainer could manage the ferocious David Glass. Given the way she bends logic, Tiffany Renee could be the contortionist and Mayor Pam could be the mime.
